60 Years of Service

SIGV recently celebrated 60 years of service.  Chartered in 1964, SIGV has given more than $500,000 to projects dedicated to improving the lives of women and children in Nevada County.  Some of these projects have continued through the years, such as the scholarship for a woman who is head of household and the Outstanding Effort Award

 

1964-1974

Helped Gold Flat School and Sierra College Student

Refurbished nurses' lounge at Nevada County General Hospital

Provided building and playground equipment for Condon Park

Supported the physical therapy room for hospital

Developed a beauty shop for the hospital with free perms and haircuts for patients

Funded the kitchen equipment for the Senior Center

Helped with Little League building and equipment at Condon Park

Supported Nevada County Workshop

Provided a movie projector for GVPD

Funded equipment for Nevada County Band

 

1975-1984

Infant cardiac respirator for Sierra Nevada Hospital

Band Uniforms for NUHS

Equipped beauty shop for Spring Hill Convalescent Hospital

Adult and baby mannequin donated for CPR classes

Funded the Jaws of Life for GV Fire Dept

Supported the SNMH chapel

Supported the Alcohol Information Center

Funded the development of DVSAC

Supported Telecare and Hospice

Funded Volunteer Bureau

Initiated the Outstanding Effort Award for 8th graders overcoming obstacles

 

1985-1994

Donated to drilling wells in Senegal

Lyman Gilmore Band Uniforms

Established Non Profit to develop The Teen Center

Developed the Low Cost Family Counseling Center (Team 3)

Chartered Soroptimist International of the Sierra Foothills

Helped develop The Sexual Assault Response Team (SART)

The Teen Center opened with SIGV support

Donated to the Cancer Garden at SNMH

Supported the Hennessy Playground project

 

1995-2004

Replaced water foountain at Condon Park

Gave money for picnic tables at Elizabeth Daniels park

Developed the KARE Crisis Nursery

Supported homeless families by giving household supplies and furniture

Supported CORR

 

2005-present

Purchased outside equipment for Hope House

Supported DVSAC

Donated to begin building of The Campus (CORR)

Helped Hope House with Soap for Hope

Affiliated with HEART in Africa

Supported Neighborhood Center for the Arts
